Where deep sea meets the atolls – the Outer Islands

Most of uninhabited Outer Islands have so far not been developed for tourism, and, as a result, they offer a special experience: seclusion, peace, rugged landscape and unique beauty. The area where the deep sea (4000 m) meets the lagoons of the atolls has created fascinating diving sites; the islands are a taste of heaven and a haven for sea birds. The beaches are amongst the most important in the Indian Ocean for egg-laying turtles. The Aldabra atoll, part of the Outer Islands, a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site, is a natural paradise and home to 100,000 giant turtles.
